Smart Laundry and Digital Payment System

Overview

We carried out the hardware assembly and on-site installation for a digital solution that replaces the token-based system commonly used in laundromats, allowing users to pay by card while tracking usage. The device controls the outlet the washing machine is plugged into, activating power only once payment is made. The card reading, payment logic, and communication were entirely our customer's own software solution — we were responsible for bringing the hardware together, wiring it, and installing it.

Purpose and Goals

Our goal was to physically bring our customer's digital payment system to life for the washing machine. We aimed to safely and securely assemble parts such as the card reader, relay, and power circuit, house them in a protective enclosure, and integrate the system smoothly into the washing machine's outlet on site.

Development Process

We first determined the requirements for the enclosure housing the device — size, mounting points, cable entries — and designed it in 3D. Once the design was approved, we 3D-printed the enclosure. We then placed and wired the card reader, relay, and power supply provided by the customer inside the box. Finally, we completed the on-site installation and assembly, including the outlet the washing machine plugs into.
